1 Corinthians 24?

In case you’re wondering why the series 24 provided an inspiration for the promo video introducing our series on 1 Corinthians, there are several good reasons. Here are just some of them:

  • Firstly, every 24 hours is an opportunity to live for the glory of God. It was a way of declaring that all day and every day, my life is given to the Lord.  The Christian life is about submitting all aspects of our being and doing to Jesus Christ. We must let him ‘access all areas’ and not give ground to the enemy of our faith.

  • Secondly (and perhaps it’s just me that thinks this), Paul may not have used Jack Bauer’s guns and physical violence, but he was still some serious dude when it came to facing issues and threats. When he became a Christian many things changed – but he still seems to have kept that radical, zealous determination. He was ready to die for what he believed!

  • Thirdly, for all those of you looking for more scholarly support, check out a quotation from Gordon Fee who is one of the foremost contemporary bible scholars. In his volume on 1 Corinthians from the New International Commentary on the New Testament, he says:

All this evidence together suggests that Paul’s Corinth was at once the New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas of the ancient world
