Perspectives on self-discipline

“Discipline in doing what you really don’t want to do, so you can do what you really want to do”
John Maxwell

“What we do on some great occasions will probably depend upon what we already are, and what we are will be the result of previous years of self-discipline

  1. That’s really good, Hugh. When we give in to a lack of self-discipline, we sacrifice Lord Jesus’ long-range plans for good and grab ahold of that which is temporary and second-best…at best. Self-discipline can be really, really hard; but it is really, really necessary.

My elders (Dan and Tom) are training us to embrace Godly character. It seems to me that one of the ways that Lord Jesus builds character in us is through teaching us to stand strong and say “no!” to the flesh. That is self-discipline, in my thinking.

  2. Amen. Discipline is so important.
