James – chapter 2

Throughout July and into the start of August, our church is preaching through the book of James. Each week we are taking a single chapter and teaching some of the radical truths of this small but powerful book. This last Sunday, Mick Walford spoke on chapter 2 and did a great job of relating James’ revelation on the place of works in the life of faith.

James says some very challenging things that do sometime cut against the evangelical grain (probably for the same reasons Luther disliked the book and called it ‘an epistle of straw’). However, it is important to understand particularly the relationship between faith and works, especially in the light of James 2:24:

“You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone”
