Spiritual Refreshment | Three

But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).
James 1:25 Amplified Bible

A much overlooked secret of spiritual refreshment is obedience – a life of willing submission to what God asks of us. When he are faithful to the word of God, we are certainly blessed. Living according to biblical principles is always so much better than anything we or anyone else can come up with.

Of course obedient and holy living brings its own benefits but an important outcome is that our spiritual sensitivity is also sharpened (Heb.5:14). Hearing and obeying God improves with practice as our spiritual 'ears' become more attuned to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

This has massive implications for the dynamism of our spiritual lives because when the word of God comes to us, it brings freedom and life. As God speaks to us prophetically through Scripture and by the Holy Spirit, revelation comes that is both transforming and powerful. This is the prophetic gifting spoken of in Joel 2 and Acts 2 promised to all of God's people.

If we are thirsty to experience more of God, we should 'do whatever he tells us' (John 2:5). We will then find ouselves living at a completely different level where faith not circumstance define our lives.
